Most. Ridiculous. Thing. Ever.

Title of essay contest to promote the "see the city that we're giving proportionally less terrorism funding to than Wyoming" 2004 GOP National Convention in NYC:

"Stand Up And Holla"

It's things like this that make me embarrassed to be a human.

I'd say there's a lot left to be done for good youth outreach, but there's a huge difference in that the campaign linked to isn't a a public embarrassment of "with it" lingo, which doesn't work in fast food advertisements, much less a national political campaign. When the DNC sponsors a "Kerry's peeps" campaign well … then I'll start my projectile vomiting.

that's fair. I suppsoe I just noticed that both of these events are co-sponsored by MTV. The winner of the Democratic Contest will also be announced on MTV.

I suppose i only pause because part of our judgement depends upon the speaker. In this case, the webdesign team. What if it was a group of 7 "withit" 21 year old Republicans who own ipods and listen to the rap music? Sure, I'm willing to bet money this was actually designed by a bunch of 30 somethings with no clue and we are correct to deride them, but a part of me wonders how similar the contests will look once they move beyond the website themselves and both start jumping onto MTV.

If they keep the name, I expect widespread mockery. So more power to them. Being politically ambitious within mainstream party politics is many things, but not chock full o' street cred.
